You need a Family Visa to live with a family member in the UK if your stay will exceed 6 months.

Application outside the UK

You can apply for a family visa to live with your:

In this case, you and your partner must both be 18 years old or older.

Your partner must also:

be a British or Irish citizen
live permanently in the UK, for example, with a permanent residence permit, stable status or proof of permanent residence
You are from the EU, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland or Liechtenstein and have a pre-defined status as you must have started living in the UK before 1/01/2021
have a Turkish business visa or a visa for Turkish workers
have refugee status or humanitarian protection in the UK

You and your partner must plan to live together permanently in the UK after applying.

You can apply to live in the UK to take care of your child.

If you are eligible to apply as a partner, you do not have to apply as a parent.

Your child must have both:

less than 18 years on the date of submission of the application
less than 18 years when you were granted your first leave and not living an independent life

Your child lives an independent life if, for example, he left the house, married and had children.

Your child must live in the UK and must have the following requirements:

He is a British or Irish citizen
has established himself in the UK, for example has a permanent residence permit, a stable status or proof of permanent residence
He or she comes from the EU, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland or Liechtenstein and has a pre-determined status: he or she must have started living in the UK before 1/01/2021
if you are applying to the UK, you must have lived in the UK for 7 years continuously and it would not be reasonable for you to leave

The decision will be communicated within 24 weeks.

- Are you applying for a Family Visa and are you in the UK?

The decision will be communicated within 8 weeks from the date of your application if you use the standard service.

If you use the super priority service, the response times will be as follows:

if the appointment is on a weekday, by the end of the next business day, after providing the biometric information;
if the appointment is on the weekend, two working days after providing the biometric information.
