Student Visa


You can apply for a Student Visa to study in the UK if you are 16 years old or older and in the following cases:

  • you have been offered a place in a course by an authorized student sponsor
  • you are financially self-sufficient and can pay for your course
  • you are able to speak, read, write and understand the English language
  • if you are under the age of 18 it is mandatory to have the consent of both parents; the consent must be attached to the application

What you can and cannot do

You can:

  • study

You cannot:

  • require public funds (benefits) and pensions
  • perform certain jobs, for example as a professional sportsman or sports coach
  • be a self-employed person

How long can you stay

Your stay will depend on the length of your course and/or the course you have already completed in the UK.

If you are at least 18 years old and your course is at the undergraduate level, you can stay in the UK for up to 5 years; below the degree level, however, you can stay in the UK for up to 2 years.
