C1/D Visas - Transit and Crew Members

The C1/D visa is a combination of two different visas, one for transit only, the other for crew members. It is a visa for those who have to board a ship or an airplane as crew members, for normal operations and services, and who also require transit to the ship or plane on which they will embark. The consular section will issue a joint C1/D visa if the reciprocity program of the applicant's country of nationality allows it.

Here are some examples of staff who need this type of visa:

  • lifeguard, cook, waiter, beautician, or other service personnel on a cruise ship
  • captain, engineer, or sailor on a ship
  • pilot or flight attendant on an airliner
